I think I will be sending Ryan Seacrest the information on the Grand Cities Idol competition, starting out with Knight Idol 2011 at Central High School. According to my favorite little website culturepulse.org, Central High School will be holding Knight Idol 2011 on Monday, January 24th at 5pm! Finalists will be competing against performers from Central, Red River and East Grand Forks High School for the chance to become this years Grand Cities Idol! (Insert Idol theme song here) What a fun chance to get out and support the young and talented in our community while channeling the fun reality show American Idol!
I’ll admit I’ve had my moments with that show. The first few seasons rocked everybody’s socks off, Randy lost weight (Hooray!), Paula went crazy (Double-Hooray!), and Simon was as mean as ever (Yikes!). Then suddenly Simon was replaced by Ellen, Paula was replaced by Kara DioGuardi, Kara was replaced by J-Lo, and Ellen was replaced by Mr. Steven Tyler, all while Randy kicked back and settled in as the big ‘dawg’ on set. Uffda! Talk about craziness! Then on top of this, most of the talented artists that we want to listen to are being replaced by people like this little gem…
Amazing dance moves, but the notes just weren’t there as Tyler would have told him.
If singing isn’t your thing and you’re in the mood for something a little more classical, intimate, and laid back this weekend, visit the North Dakota Museum of Art for their Museum Concert Series featuring the Diotima String Quartet! This quartet knows their notes as it was founded by graduates of the Paris and Lyon Conservatories. They will be playing at 2pm this Sunday, January 23rd, 2011 and have been performing internationally, in major concert venues, and at music festivals across Europe.
Whether you are listening to classical music or the class of 2011 at Central High School, Grand Forks has some of the best in music, arts, and culture. Wishing you warmer days and a happy song stuck in your head, here’s a link to a local Friday favorite: The Neckties (Featured at the 2010 Zombie Music Fest)
