This week will be filled with music in the city of Grand Forks! Tonight; Monday, Jan 31st, Red River High School will be performing in their Winter Band Concert and later this week on Tuesday, February 1st Barefoot will be performing at the Chester Fritz Auditorium.

I believe that it is always exciting to see young talent in our local High Schools, it is amazing what some of these teenagers can do! The Concert will begin at 7:30 in the Red River Gymnasium with performances by the Varsity Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band. These bands are directed by Chris Larsen, Bruce Morlock and student teacher Nicholas Kelly. The event is free for the public.

After you’ve enjoyed the High School Band Concert you can travel to the Chester Fritz Auditorium to see Barefoot.

“Bluegrass music from Alaska may sound like a bit of a non sequitur, but Telluride Band Contest winner BEARFOOT is proving that the two aren’t as unrelated as you might think. Bearfoot’s rise from über talented music camp counselors to an established national touring band has been nothing short of meteoric. Their fresh approach to acoustic music features twin fiddles, fast-picking mandolin and guitar, upright bass, and beautiful harmony vocals. Whether performing their original Americana/bluegrass songs, freshly arranged traditionals, or covers of contemporary tunes, Bearfoot’s exuberant stage presence elicits an appeal that bridges generations.”

Bluegrass Unlimited claims that “It bounces, it swings, it dives head-first into minor keys and unexpected (but totally workable) phrasings. In other words, it’s very cool.”

Ticket prices are as follows:
Adult – $25/18+
Student – $20/15+
Child – $20/10+

The concert begins at 7:30pm.

With something as unique as a bluegrass group from Alaska how could their performance not entertain?

Either event you chose this week in Grand Forks guarantees you won’t be bored!
